About The King Protea Flower
The King Protea (pronounced "prō – dē – a") became the national flower of S Africa in 1976. This plant, named after Proteus, a Greek god who could change his form at will, is 1 of the oldest flowering plants on earth, dating back 300 million years. There are many varieties of protea, which tin can be establish in South Africa, Commonwealth of australia, Asia, and parts of South America.
King Proteas, whose flower resembles an artichoke, is the largest member of the protea family. They can grow as large as 3-four feet alpine with flowers 8-10 inches in diameter. The bloom has a substantial white fuzzy centre with pointy pinkish or white petals surrounding the eye, along with leathery green petals that cradle the large, heavy bloom and a thick stem that supports information technology.
